Here's your sign.

** Let me start off by saying that since Ralph posted a sweet lil' comment on yesterday's post, I will now feel free to call him by his real name here on my Blog, and, for the most part, lose the "Rock n' Roll Buddy" part when I refer to him here.**

Now that the most hideous part of moving is behind me, and my belongings are all piled a mile high at my new home, my mind is literally whirling with decorating ideas.

My oldest daughter asked me several month ago if I was attempting to "domesticate" Ralph. We both laughed, but, I guess for lack of a better term that may be the case. Call it what you like; the change from bachelor pad to a couple's nest is a pretty decent sized leap, but I think it's all going to come together fabulously.

That brings me to my blog topic today (I bet you were starting to wonder what the heck my post title had to do with what I am yammering about.)

Signs with famous quotes, motivational sayings, and cute quips have become wildly popular in home decor, and that got me to many art pieces are too much?

Here's the thing- I see so many great ideas that I even have four different boards of them going on my Pinterest Page, and I can visualize them in many spots around the house, adding a lot of personality. Let's say the back deck for example...
...or the kitchen...

 .....the laundry room...
....the family room (You know, Ralph is in a band, and so these only seem not only appropriate, but show our personalities...)

...and any number of other spots around the house...

The thing is that I don't want it to be over-kill. It's a fine line between cool and cheesy, you know.

So....How about you? Are you into word art? Do you enjoy it here and there, not at all, or all around the house??

  1. I struggle with the same dilemma! When you figure it out, let me know :)

  2. To be honest I used to like it but it's become kind of cheesy to me. It just reminds me of bumper stickers. It looks fine now but in a year it's old....if you know what I mean. Also when the message goes on and on who bothers to read it? I do realize I probably have the opposite opinion of everyone else!!! One word is always interesting more than that becomes predictable. asked haha.

I can't wait to snoop and see what you do at your new place. I'm really happy to see YOUR happy Tracey. Wow, how long has it been since I started following your blog? Yeah, I'm still too lazy and nervous to create one. I mean how could I compete in this wonderful blog world?

    Have fun.

  3. I think cute signs would be ok in a weekend home that you visit from time to time, but would get really old in your everyday home. There are so many better things to hang on a wall. Maybe hang a cute sign temporarily for a party or event---but not all the time.

  4. I had to "pin" your post because the quotes are SO great!
I also HAD to go back to yesterday's post and read Ralph's post. And I LOVE him! So happy for both of you!

  5. I love all the wooden signs with a message, so much so I have one whole wall filled with, all color wood and different sayings. I love the wall, and everyone that comes in my home does as well. My fave is "Whatever you are, be a good one" Abe Lincoln God's blessings on your new chapter of life.

  6. Personally I don't like signs. Cheap way to decorate and they are old news. Maybe have one favorite but not a bunch. Just my idea.

  7. I have one word sign in the laundry room. I think there is way too much interesting art, including naive original art, to go hanging up word posters that anyone could have. But that's just me.

  8. Blargh! I can't believe how many people are down on the sign art! I love 'quotable quotes'! I have a frame in my bathroom that I insert new quotes into on a regular basis. Today, anyone who uses my powder room will see this:
"Anything that contradicts experience and logic should be abandoned. - The Dalai Lama

I like to think. I love quotes that make me think. Yay, signs!

    DeeDee's Mom

  9. When I read the last two lines of your post, I had to laugh! Reminded me of a quote from Dave Barry, "There's a fine line between hobby and mental illness" :) Not that I'm saying this is related to you, just always laugh when I think of it. Frankly, you have an excellent sense of design and I wouldn't worry. You'll know when you hit the limit, lol! Plus, you could always rotate your collection. Personally, I love quotes and think they can make you pause in the daily rush, and take a moment to contemplate. Not a bad thing at all! Hi to Ralph! :) He sound like a real sweetheart! I'm so happy for you!

  10. Dear Tracey--
Three points I would like to make: 1. I did NOT think your Rock 'n Roll Buddy was gay. And how romantic to be with a guy that can sing to you all the time! 2. I love the quote boards too. I just wanted to say that you have never shown us anything but pure beauty and class in everything you have ever decorated. So whether you use 10 or 100 I am sure it will be wonderful. 3. Please know that my name is Lori and I am indeed a (strong) Christian. And most importantly that was NOT me that wrote that ugly comment to you yesterday. I totally agree that more times than not it is the "Christians" that turn people from religion. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your man, your dog and your new house! Lori Lucas

  11. So do you have "carte blanche" with your new nest? If so, then he must be twitterpated and you better start gettin' to work fast before he wakes up and realizes there is "girl stuff" everywhere!(wink, wink)!!

p.s. Pictures as soon as possible, please!!!!

  12. I love wall quotes when they are done in a current or trendy design adds personality to a home much like pictures. Anything that looks like subway art catches my eye and love the one in the kitchen picture you posted. You have wonderful design taste Tracey, I know you will know when to say when with the use of this type of art. Can't wait to see pictures of your new nest with your lucky man. Again congrats to both of you. Jeni

  13. Gotta say(after reading back a few posts) I too thought your "rock and roll buddy" was gay. OOPS!!

  14. Oh, and signs are great! I decorate with primitives and have a few signs. They make a home cozy and personal. If you are trying to impress the masses, do as they dictate. If you like signs and they make you happy...then use em!

  15. Have to ask but how did you met Ralph? Jealous:)
